Coordinator News

The following article, by Erin Aylor, is a reprint from March 2019.
Humor. Sometimes, if we don't laugh, we will CRY! Oh, y'all! I'm chief of sinners when it comes to overreacting to piddly stuff and then regretting it later. This hurts my relationship with my boys when I do this. If you feel yourself about to blow your top and/or melt into a puddle, try something different instead of your usual reaction! Get crazy for a moment! Make bug-eye faces with your kids! Get out the can of whipped cream and give everyone a squirt in their mouth. Shoot a few rubber bands around the room. [I know some of you may have a look of horror on your face reading these ideas while there are others who haven't even read this far...they're busy finding the can of whipped cream!] I don't know about you, but I'm a tad of a control freak, and it can unnerve me when something happens I cannot control. However, I'm always responsible for my responses...whether they are controlled or not. Through God's help, I can choose not to make mountains out of molehills, to laugh at something that will not matter 10 hours, 10 days, 10 weeks, 10 months, or 10 years from now. Humor can help us navigate many a trying times. "But how?" you may be asking. Think of your 5 senses and what would be humorous to hear, see, smell, taste, or touch. Most common humor stimuli are sight and hearing, but be creative! Joke calendars, YouTube videos, funny stories, fake bugs placed in precarious places, funny faces and poses can all get responses. What about drawing some crazy hair on the mirror with $1 lipstick! When your kids wash their hands, they'll be "trying on a new 'do', too"! You know your kids better than anyone else. What makes them grin, laugh, and giggle? Let your children and teens see a merry heart...not a SCARY heart! Always remember, we are modeling parenting for our "future parents"! Have a blessed and smile-filled March!
Proverbs 12:25 "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad."
Proverbs 17:22 "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength."
