A Word From The Coordinator
In January the REACH Board voted to elect Laura Irvin to serve as the REACH Secretary. She will be stepping in for Emily DeCosta who has served as REACH Secretary for 4 years. While we, as the Board, are sad to see Emily go, she will still be involved in REACH in other aspects. We hope you will help us in congratulating Laura on her new position!
Below is a little bit about Laura and her family.
Hello Friends! Let me introduce myself. I’m Laura Irvin and I will be serving as REACH Secretary. I’ve been homeschooling for 11 years, but I was around homeschooling as a teenager babysitting in the ‘90’s. I’ve been happily married to a Mr. Nice Guy, Matthew Irvin, for 23 years and we have four sons, Zadok 15, Simeon 13, Nathaniel 12, and Ezekiel 9. Some of you may know me as the Science Lab Lady. I’ve been teaching REACH high school science labs for 7 (ish) years. Before kids, I taught as an adjunct biology, anatomy and physiology, and microbiology instructor at Arkansas Tech and Southwest Texas Junior College.
Why will I be serving as Secretary? It isn’t from my awesome administrative skills, but more of a desire to contribute to an organization that has supported me for the last 11 years and now it’s time I give back. Part of my duties will be keeping minutes for our board meetings, keeping track of updates to our organizations handbook, helping update committee guidelines, etc. I cannot stress enough how helpful and kind the other board members are when a new member comes on to serve.

For February we will share Valentine cards with the residents. If you can bring cards, homemade or store-bought, please indicate this on the sign-up form. We will contact families about how many each family needs to bring closer to the event. Sign up by January 30 if planning to attend the February nursing home ministry club.

This club is open to students in grades 6-12 (adults may play too). Participants should bring their own discs. A starter set can be purchased for about $20-$30. Some parents will be needed to help oversee groups based on how many players we have. We try to keep the groups small so players can cover more of the course. Respond on the sign-up form accordingly if you as a parent can help one or more weeks. Parents may take younger kids to the nearby playground while older students are participating in disc golf club.
Attention REACH members: Come and join the Kickball Club! The dates this spring will be March 22nd, April 26th, and May 17th. All you need to bring is a water bottle. There is a park nearby for younger siblings to play. If you have any questions, please contact Misty Lewis 479-858-2881 or Kim Law 479-970-0238.
Parents may drop children off as long as they leave them under the supervision of another adult. Misty and Kim will not be able to supervise children who may need to use the restroom facilities.

Intensives Spring 2024
REACH Intensives are a great opportunity to take a deep-dive on a subject or skill set. Want to lead a one-day essay-writing workshop for teens? Bring it. Want to do an intensive on Test Prep? Or teach a one-day class on calligraphy or other forms of art? We'd love it! Do you know someone in our community who you'd like to speak to our kiddos on a given subject or teach them a new skill? You can make that happen! If you have an idea for an intensive, send your info to Lauren Scott at Lauren.Jesusismyjoy@gmail.com. Try to include a title and description, date, time, place, host, speaker/teacher, cost (if any), age limit (if any), supplies needed (if any).

Testing is recommended for those students who may attend college or this test can be used to identify gaps in learning. It’s a good idea to test your student in a group setting starting around 5th grade and test at least every other year until he/she begins taking the ACT and/or SAT which is usually taken for the first time in 10th grade.
Testing is NOT required by the state, so this is optional. Please check out our testing tab for more information including test prep materials. Make sure you sign your students up for the grade(s) you want them to test in and use their name as it would appear on the test document. Parents, you do not have to stay on the premises unless your child has anxiety issues.
